Ah fashion week. The clothes, the energy, the skinny models… *cries into a salad*. It’s such an exciting week to be in New York! I mean that’s why we go to fashion school right? To stand in a 6 hour line to possibly, maybe get a volunteer spot at a show. Kidding, but it’s somewhat true. Going to a school like FIT gives you these insane opportunities that integrate you (head first) into the fashion community. For the S/S shows this past fall, I was given the opportunity to volunteer at the 5:31 Jérôme presentation. It was honestly kind of inspiring. Yes, the models occasionally pass out while you are trying to get them out of a too-tight-for-a-human-being-turtleneck, and you run out of ribbon for the shoes you are lacing 5 minutes before the show starts, but the end result? Magic.
The shows:
The F/W shows that commenced earlier this week are equally as exciting. My insanely cool friend, Zach, is a genius and long story short got us into the Charlotte Ronson show. IT WAS SO COOL. (See pics below). Being inside of Mercedes-Benz Fashion week is a crazy wonderful experience all on it’s own.
The RTW collection was a beautiful mix of raw prints and rich colors. The soft lines and relaxed silhouettes emphasized the femininity of the collection.
The parties:
So obviously there has to be something going on for all of the fabulous people (that I’m totally jealous of) after the shows. These would be the after parties. My friends and I some how got invited to Russell Westbrook’s sunglass launch party with Jack Threads. This wasn’t by any means an “A-list after party”, but it was a great networking opportunity and lets face it, it made us feel cool/important for a few hours.
The models:
Perfect, skinny, beautiful people that make you never want to eat again (but actually). Like could they spare a few inches to those of us that are vertically challenged??
With all that being said, If you are volunteering at a show this week, good luck to you soldier. And if not? Grab that 36 calorie Arctic Zero ice cream and watch the live feed here.
HAPPY FASHION WEEK
